Clematis integrifolia and detail

Clematis plants are divided into three pruning groups by when they flower. Clematis integrifolia flowers in summer, so it belongs to Group 3.
There are numerous species and hybrids of clematis out there, and the best way to prune them is according to when they bloom. Clematis plants are categorized into three groups: spring bloomers (Group 1), repeat bloomers (Group 2), and summer or fall bloomers (Group 3).

Click here for a listing of the most popular clematis species and hybrids and the pruning group to which they belong.

To learn how to prune these plants correctly, see "Pruning Clematis" in the March/April 2003 issue of Fine Gardening (#90).
