Garden Photo of the Day

Jeff’s summertime garden in Tennessee, Day 2

Welcome back to Day 2 of Jeff’s garden in Tennessee, where he’s showing us all of the goodies that are growing like gangbusters in his garden.

In case you missed it, here’s what he said yesterday: “I do a walkabout every day to check out what is going on in the garden and the changes from the day before…sometimes good changes and sometimes not so much. Yes, I have too much “stuff” but I do enjoy growing it all and seeing how it performs here in the hills of Tennessee.

I don’t have many wide angle shots for two reasons: lately i’m focusing on the flowers, colors, and textures, and I can’t seem to get everything done all at the same time for photos. The grass always seems to grow too fast and I can’t keep up!”

So much stuff to see!! Jeff, keep sending in updates!

—–Keep sending in photos of your garden, everyone! Without you, the GPOD wouldn’t exist! Join the fun and let us all see what you’re doing in your garden this year.—–

Gorgeous, as usual, Jeff, especially the sedums and that white lily - yum! Your garden is heavenly and I know it takes a lot of work to keep it that way, in addition to all your other gardening endeavors. Love all the pictures.

Still amazed by all your plant varieties Jeff! What are the plants with the chartreuse foliage in the first photo? If those are Lime Rickey Heucheras, please share your growing secrets. Had trouble growing those and the orange ones. I am told by the nursery staff that only the purples and darker green ones do well in the garden while the orange and chartreuse ones fare better in containers.

Ok, Jeff, add Peruvian Daffodil envy to my list of things of yours I covet. I have a few strappy leaves coming up where I planted the gloriously healthy pot you gave me. Now I'm rethinking whether or not I should have left them to winter in the ground. Anyway, yours look beautiful as does everything else in the photos you shared.

Hello Jeff ~ Day 2 in your garden is such a visual treat - again. I love the field of Saxifraga. Is it growing right in the sun? It is so full and lush, mine never really fills out so much. Your pots are amazing and I love the lush green sweep of you lawn/gardens. Thanks for sharing again.

Lovely! Jeff, there are always things in your garden that surprise and delight! When I see your wonderful collection of succulents, both in containers and in the ground, it is hard to keep from being envious. I know I have no place to grow such beauties - but I want them anyway! And all the rest of your garden too!

I think it's a perennial groundcover called 'Strawberry Begonia'...they do look particularly enchanting with that froth of little white flowers hovering above those great leaves.

Thanks Jeff love it all. Keep sending pictures. We all have plant envy. Do you use fertilizer or do you just enrich the soil?

    1. user-1020932 06/26/2014

thanks, GrannyCC, i use fertilizer in the containers (Osmocote) and in the beds i use Milorganite IF i remember. i'm lucky to have perfect soil here in the valley
