satori42 writes: I was at a local nursery where the owner had a large, old-growth planting of red hot poker, and I asked her if she had any for sale. She said no, but them dug up a small section of it, from the edge of the main growth, and gave it to me to take home (for free!) She said her mother had planted it there 20+ years ago.

I planted this section last year in my own garden and it didn't do so well, lost a lot of its leaves. But this spring it came back up, and flowered beautifully. Goes to show, yes it can be divided, at least from old, established growth.

I also am growing a couple dozen of them from seed, planted inside this March, they are still very small, but growing happily, or so it appears. Posted: 10:48 am on June 30th
Loued007 writes: Interesting little info about pronunciation. Most gardeners pronounce it nih-FOH-feeah. I read somewhere it was named after a man named Kah-nip-hahf and is pronounced Kah-nip-HOF-eeah. Anybody else know or Kah-no!) anything about pronunciation? Posted: 2:48 pm on June 29th

hgm writes: emdee, You will want to cut the flower stalks back after bloom, and in the fall cut the whole plant back. I've read that Red Hot Pokers can't be divided, but I've had good success with this, just fyi Posted: 11:54 pm on June 24th
