Garden containers in Alaska
comments (1) June 16th, 2009 in gallery
I live in Alaska's rainforest surrounded by either woods or muskeg, no dirt so I have to make my own. Not much access to containers so I use whatever works, old skiffs, wood slabs from the sawmill. The boat filled with dahlias is an old aluminum skiff I painted to look like wood, topped with several coats of marine varnish to protect it from our harsh weather. It's been five years and still looks good! This year it holds vegetables. The tulips are in a container I made with slabs leftover from trees I had milled for boards to build my cabin. Two more slab containers hold flowers on each side of the steps. It all looks a little different in winter.
