These lovely flowers are growing in partial shade at one corner of my salad bar. This is the first year they've bloomed in such profusion, and the scent is delightful. I'd love to know what they are.

Lunaria writes: Well, "invasive" is probably accurate under the right conditions. But personally, I love the stuff. It is so beautiful and fragrant. In south-central Indiana it has naturalized along streams and roadside ditches. It is often misidentified as phylox, but its four petaled flower is the identifying feature. Phylox have more petals. RobinB writes: It sure looks like Dame's Rocket (my grandmother and mother call it Sweet Rocket) and it's only invasive if you let it go to seed, so deadhead as soon as it's done! Posted: 4:52 pm on June 29th
Motleyalaskan writes: I go with Dames' Rocket too. I guess it could be invasive..I know it flowers every other year and smells delicious...just about anything can be invasive under the proper conditions...like the tall white clover
(probably started by DOT) that grows along ALL the major highways of America... Now THAT'S invasive! Posted: 4:16 pm on June 29th

Ruth writes: Thanks, PlayinDirt. I guess I've seen this as a roadside plant as well, now that I think about it. Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis) is apparently invasive (thanks, Google), so I'll keep tabs on it. But for now, I love it right where it is. Posted: 2:10 pm on June 2nd
