Lasagna Garden in Maine

This is my “lasagna” no-till garden which was only a bare snowy lot in Deer Isle, Maine on March 20.  The first layer was sheets of cardboard compliments of the town dump. I weighed the cardboard down with seaweed  from the town beach followed by a layer of leaves from Spring clean-up and lastly a layer of well rotted horse manure from our neighbor. The garden is edged with bricks recovered from a building project and the raised beds are created with lumber washed up on the beach.  Even the bird house decoration,  flower pots and bench are rescued from our “Take It Or Leave It” section of the dump. I plan to plant May 15th with flower seeds which also “recycle” by reseeding, such as  bachelor buttons and love-in-a-mist.
