Milo looks into his cool, woodland garden in the heat of the summer.

Milo surveys his California native plant woodland garden in August.  To his left is Roger's Red wild grape (Vitis 'Roger's Red), and to his right is a dormant golden currant shrub (Ribes aureum). Native grasses and grass-like plants (Carex sp., Juncus sp.) adorn the garden, with native shrubs including toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia) and fuchsia-flowering gooseberry (Ribes speciosum).  The path of the "green" garden is lined with recycled bricks, and carpeted with chipped garden waste. Birds, people and other critters enjoy the cool respite of this shady native garden.
