What is the name of this plant? This plant is found in Sarawak, Malaysia.

This plant produces a very unusual fruit. It is as big, round and heavy just like a bowling ball. It has a greenish outer shell very hard to break open. Also, the tree has many branches growing out from the same node.

Please let me know the name of this plant if you so happen to know it. Thank you! :))

Musu writes: That plant is called Calabash tree, scientifically known as Crescentia Cujeta. It is cultivated in the tropics. The fruits are used to make bowls, cups and musical instrument. Posted: 1:53 pm on November 15th

EllieMaye writes: Ah, :-/ .... well ... the only other tree that comes to mind for me is Couroupita (which is commonly called "cannonball tree" and the inside of that fruit does turn very dark, when exposed to the air), but I discounted that at first, because I thought that one tended to bear it's fruit more closely to the main trunk, rather than out along the branches. ~E Posted: 11:08 am on October 8th
Rist writes: Hi Ellie, it looks similar but it's not a mangrove tree. Posted: 6:35 pm on October 7th
EllieMaye writes: Not absolutely certain from the pix, but perhaps this is Xylocarpus? Posted: 6:00 pm on October 7th
