Help Me ID This Plant!

Hey botanists:
I collected these seed pods from an arboretum in California, but the shrub was exotic – Chilean, South African, Madagascarean, wherever – I have no idea. But I need to know the genus of this plant ASAP for my masters thesis!
Can anyone help me?
