Is this a herb or a weed?

Hi there!

I need some advice please. What plant is this?

I'm really hoping that this might be a herb, but then again, it might just as well be a weed...

This plant just appeared in my vegetable garden. It is growing very low on the ground, allmost like a ground cover. The leaves have a lemon scent when crushed and also a lemon taste. The biggest leaves are about 2cm long and the stems and leaves are covered in tiny hairs.

The previous owners of the house used to be keen gardeners and a lot ofother stuff like basil, tomatoes and mint and lemon thyme (along with a lot weeds) have just sprung up and started growing on their own this season.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking at other pictures of Oregano I also agree it probably is Oregano. But I live in South Africa, so unfortunately won't be bringing it in :(

I think the plant on the right is something called Dymondia, just a normal ground cover.

Thank you very much for all your inputs and help!
