This plant came up in our flower bed. We thought it was a giant sunflower but it did not bloom. I took a hand saw and cut it down. it had a 4 inch stalk and it was solid and smelt like milkweed. the plant was around 15 feet high. It has been about month since i cut it down and just noticed this weekend that it is growing back it is about 4 feet high already.

Can you tell me what the plant is? will it bloom? how high will it grow if I leave it?

ddavis23 writes: I have the same plant in my backyard and thought the same as you...that it was a giant sunflower because I had planted seeds in that general area. It did not flower. I tried to research it and the closest match I got was that it was an empress plant/tree, which is a prolific grower. Mine grew to 5 feet in a week! If you find out anything different, please post! Juliesocal writes: I had a similar plant grow as well. I took it out before it got as tall. Interesting that you mentioned milweed. I planted milkweed seeds near this, and thought it might be that, but it did not look like the milkweed I took the seeds from....please let me know if you find out what this is!
