It seems like every few days now, Irvin Faria sends me a few new photos from his wife Pauline's garden in Carmichael, California, and I love it! Today's photos show her garden in full fall swing, and the colors are stunning. Irvin says, "Our neighbors especially enjoy the kaleidoscope of color from the delicate leaves and the pyrotechnics of autumn as they stroll through Pauline’s garden. Fall foliage colors are magnificent at their peak here in Carmichael, California, near the end of November.  Hardy green leaves of an iron plant contrast with the soft yellow leaves of the 'Beni Hoshi' Japanese maple. Long limbs of valley oaks serve to frame the multi-colored Japanese maples.  The brilliance of the dogwood tree assures us that fall has arrived. Toward evening the long shadows of oak tree limbs bring a sense of calm and tranquility to the entire garden. The soft tinkle of falling water and surrounding foliage of Japanese blood grass attract birds in thirst or for a cool bath. We are grateful for what nature has brought to us." Thanks, Irvin! Keep those photos coming.

My first impression was the earthy aroma of decaying leaves on the forest floor, then the crunch of crisp leaves issuing a different note with each step, with every breath I could taste the woodsy air.
