READER PHOTO! Clare's garden in New Jersey
comments (2) November 22nd, 2011 in blogs
Today's photo is from Clare Oliva in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. She says, "This is my side yard (the house is on the left just out of sight). This view is especially beautiful and colorful in the fall. Here you can see a little bit of the formal beds (red, white and pink wax begonias surrounded by a lush boxwood hedge) along with the more "natural" plantings in the rest of the picture. The shrub with the large, pinkish red flowers is one of my favorites -- a Pinky Winky hydrangea. The huge flowers start out white, then start to turn pink, resulting in two-tone flowers that end the season by turning entirely pink. Next to it is a dogwood tree that is just starting to show fall color. On the right side of the picture, you can see half of the variegated weigela shrub. The golden yellow autumn tree foliage contrasted with the large evergreen trees in the background completes the scene. Sometimes it's easy to forget that I live only 20 miles from New York City!" Beautiful, Clare! Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
