its flower are different than the carolina allspice. Fast growing.

Im new in this wonderful site so please bare with me. I bought this bush three months ago when it was only one foot tall. It is now 6 feet tall and very wide. I was told it was a carolina alllspice but my plant has hard pods and flowers then remains this pod. can someone please tell me what this is. Thank you in advance. Lucylight.

Thicketgirl writes: What you have is called Roselle, the scientific name is Hibiscus sabdariffa. The fruit part of Roselle (the hard pods you speak of), called the calyx, is red in color and tastes like berries. These dried fruit are used to make a caffeine free herbal tea, known as Hibiscus tea or Red Zinger Tea. Enjoy!
