I've wanted to visit Old Westbury Gardens in Old Westbury, New York, on Long Island, ever since I saw the 1994 movie Wolf with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer. Can't you just imagine these scenes under a full moon with a werewolf skulking by? I finally got to visit a couple of weeks ago, just after Hurricane Irene left town. The grounds were just about straightened out (there were a couple of downed trees and branches), and the gardens were definitely impressive. This grand old estate, built in 1906, was the home of John S. Phipps and his family for more than 50 years. These days you can visit and stroll both the Charles II-style mansion and the 200-acre landscape and gardens. For the next few days, I'll show you more scenes from the gardens. Stay tuned!
