I had a chance to visit Lurie Garden in Millenium Park in downtown Chicago a couple of weeks ago (thanks again to Amanda Thomsen, FG's newest blogger, who acted as my guide!), and it was spectacular! This is obviously a garden that peaks in fall, and the contrast of the meadow-like plantings to the buildings that surround the park is stunning. Here are a few scenes from the garden.

WhiteBear writes: Yes, it is a beautiful garden. Part of its success is that it never peaks--it is beautiful whenever one visits. That is the genius of the designers. I suggest visiting when your own garden is not at its peak because there are signs that give information on the species in bloom at the time. I used this information to add to my late spring garden an allium that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Posted: 1:10 pm on September 24th
