Orange is a lovely distraction

If anything could distract from the awesome pruning job on the huge conical shrub on the upper terrace of this scene at Longwood Gardens, it would be the shocking orange of this azalea. Wow! I'm not sure I knew they came in this color, but now I'm hooked!

CountryCousin writes: Can't be sure about the azalea in the photo, but I have a 'screaming orange' azalea from the Northern Lights series, called 'Mandarin Lights'. It wasn't in bloom when I bought it, and the nursery's label said it was going to be a deep rose pink. You can imagine my shock the first year it flowered! But I love it now. Serendipetously, it blooms at the same time as the Brunnera macrophylla planted under it, and the lovely forget-me-not-like blue flowers of the bugloss enhance, and take the edge off, the intense orange of the azalea.
