I've been pleasantly—and privately—pleased with my container designs recently, but how would my pots stack up against someone who really knows how to put a container combination together? To find out, I challenged Fine Gardening's staff container expert—and associate editor—Michelle Gervais to this "Container Shootout." Watch the video to find out what happened.

Best of all: you get to vote for the container design you like best.

But, as we all know, plantings don't always grow into one another as we hope, especially when critters are involved. Steve's deletions and additions were perfect, and in the end... it was awesome. If only the pot was really steely blue! Posted: 2:38 pm on May 16th
susan_morrison writes: I have to admit, I didn’t think you stood a chance going into this, Steve. I loved Michelle’s initial plant choices, in particular the addition of yellow blooms. And you can dress it up with all the manly-man language you want, but I recognize a lavender pot when I see one. But the final composition is quite lovely and has a very appealing asymmetrical quality. Adding the silver was genius. Posted: 11:47 am on May 16th
altavitae writes: Nice video. I love planting containers but I would suggest you mention the size of the pot you're working with. This is the easier mistake to make: too small a pot. Also pot should be viewed from the distance, from at least 30 feet away to get a real look at the effect.
