Photo: Courtesy of Dorothy Kerr

Today's photo is from Dorothy Kerr. She sent it in last week and said, "This is spring at its best. Mother robin's eggs in a weeping mulberry tree in Central Ohio." When I emailed Dorothy earlier this week to let her know I'd be featuring the eggs on the GPOD today, she sent in an update! Click on the second photo to see mama sitting on the eggs and the third photo to see the newly-hatched babies. Beautiful, Dorothy! Thanks for capturing this. Dorothy wrote a blog post about the nest--check it out here.

Welcome to the Fine Gardening GARDEN PHOTO OF THE DAY blog! Every weekday we post a new photo of a great garden, a spectacular plant, a stunning plant combination, or any number of other subjects. Think of it as your morning jolt of green.

Sign up to get new posts delivered to your inbox each morning so you'll always remember to take a look, or subscribe to our RSS feed. We look forward to sharing our garden travels with you.

READER PHOTOS: We love featuring your photos, too. If you think you have a photo that we should share on the Garden Photo of the day, email us. Send hi-res images if possible. We'll only respond if we plan to use your photo.

David_Bockman writes: That nest was made by one OCD lil' Robin-- I've never seen such perfection in the nests our Robins make-- they seem quite slapdash and last-minute constructions in fact! Posted: 8:32 am on May 6th
