I love the idea of a wide edging of bricks or pavers along a perennial border. I looks neat and tidy, but it also cuts down on maintenance. No need to get out the edger or the weed-whacker here! This is a perennial border at the Toledo Botanical Garden in Ohio. Here, that wide border edging is actually a pathway. Even more useful!

petuniababi writes: Such a beautiful photo.The brick work makes it look so put together!In answer to PeonyFan; I have had better success with the metal strips than the plastic edging.The metal holds up longer and does a better job of keeping out grass. Posted: 10:44 am on March 10th

The plastic edging strips are ugly but without them, keeping grass out of flower beds is an unending task. Do the thin metal strips work well? Posted: 9:52 am on March 10th
