Here's a serene scene from the Conservatory Garden in NYC's Central Park. This is a preview to next week, when I'll be featuring a few plant combos from the spectacularly talented designers there. Annuals, perennials, tropicals, and hedges mingle to dazzling effect in this gem of a garden. Stay tuned.

Welcome to the Fine Gardening GARDEN PHOTO OF THE DAY blog! Every weekday we post a new photo of a great garden, a spectacular plant, a stunning plant combination, or any number of other subjects. Think of it as your morning jolt of green.

Sign up to get new posts delivered to your inbox each morning so you'll always remember to take a look, or subscribe to our RSS feed. We look forward to sharing our garden travels with you.

READER PHOTOS: We love featuring your photos, too. If you think you have a photo that we should share on the Garden Photo of the day, email us. Send hi-res images if possible. We'll only respond if we plan to use your photo.

jean1964 writes: Green - Serene. A friend whose favorite color is green indirectly helped me put those 2 words together for myself. For some reason I thought green was an odd color to be her favorite...but one day as I was relaxing in the most green area of my yard enclosed by beautiful plantings (with only a few white blossoms) and an old-old tree, I realized that Green is Serene. Now after the Big Blizzard, I can take myself back there for a sense of summer calm. Thank you for sharing this photo -- it is a beautiful place in Central Park and a good reminder of warm weather for me in the midwest. Posted: 7:30 am on February 4th
