Todays photos come from Jenny Koester in Cincinnati, Ohio. She says, "I took these milkweed photos in September 2010 in Ault Park in Cincinnati. Ault Park has gorgeous gardens designed and maintained by their florists. There is a formal garden area with smaller plots for adoption in another area of the park, and I garden in three of those small formal garden spaces that I've adopted." Thanks, Jenny, for sharing these with us!

Welcome to the Fine Gardening GARDEN PHOTO OF THE DAY blog! Every weekday we post a new photo of a great garden, a spectacular plant, a stunning plant combination, or any number of other subjects. Think of it as your morning jolt of green.

Sign up to get new posts delivered to your inbox each morning so you'll always remember to take a look, or subscribe to our RSS feed. We look forward to sharing our garden travels with you.

READER PHOTOS: We love featuring your photos, too. If you think you have a photo that we should share on the Garden Photo of the day, email us. Send hi-res images if possible. We'll only respond if we plan to use your photo.

milkweed is a distant relative of hoya carnosa, the wax plant?

you can put milkweed fluff on your Xmas tree for a gossamer veil of white fluff?

some people react to the sap of the milkweed by getting a mild rash?

if you wait until late in the season, ripe milkweed pods are fun to hold up to the wind on a windy day?

this is the monarch caterpillar's favorite food?

that the flower of this plant is pretty and has a nice scent?

sheilaschultz writes: Great shot Jenny. Putting public garden spaces up for adoption is an excellent alternative for dwindling city and state funds. BTW, what kind of camera are you using? I'm in the market for a new one. Posted: 12:16 pm on January 7th
