First things first, Happy Thanksgiving!! Hope you're enjoying some turkey-time and family fun.

Speaking of fun, got a dead tree nagging you? An old broken bike hanging around the shed? A junk pile waiting for a trip to the dump? Marry one of those things with a can of brightly colored spray paint, and you've got a seriously eye-catching focal point for your garden! These fun examples can be credited to FG's new contributing editor, Jason Reeves, down at the University of Tennessee Gardens at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson, Tennessee. We're having FUN in the garden all week! Got some photos of wild and whimsical features in your garden? Email me!

Welcome to the Fine Gardening GARDEN PHOTO OF THE DAY blog! Every weekday we post a new photo of a great garden, a spectacular plant, a stunning plant combination, or any number of other subjects. Think of it as your morning jolt of green.

Sign up to get new posts delivered to your inbox each morning so you'll always remember to take a look, or subscribe to our RSS feed. We look forward to sharing our garden travels with you.

If you think you have a photo that we should share on the Garden Photo of the day, email us. Send hi-res images to mgervais@taunton.com with GPOD in the subject line. We'll only respond if we plan to use your photo.

Way Cool. A neat way to get color into the garden. My garden could use it during certain times of the year. Posted: 2:09 pm on November 28th
sheilaschultz writes: Welcome to FG, Jason. I'm eager to see and read your future contributions! I would have never thought about painting a tree until last year. We were traveling during the holidays and the landscaping at our hotel had red painted trees tucked here and there. They were unexpected fun in a very colorful kind of way! wittyone writes: Wow! These are great! I have a shed full of cast off things that we have yet to get rid of. Now maybe I can salvage some of them as possible decorations for some of my flower beds. Not being blessed with the ability to revision ordinary things as decoration, having possibilities like this showcased is a wonderful resource for me. Posted: 11:39 am on November 25th
