Today's combo from the Cotton-Arbo retum includes dwarf golden Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Nana Lutea', USDA Hardiness Zones 4-8) and masterwort (Astrantia major, Zones 4-8). It's a delicate, subtle combo, one you don't notice right away, but it's beautiful!

Mindy Arbo, who gardens at the Cotton-Arbo retum, her private-turned-public garden in Winchester, Massachusetts, is a master at mixing evergreens with herbaceous plants. This week we're highlighting five of her awesome combos.

Combining evergreens with herbaceous plants is something that is definitely an art form, in my opinion. So often evergreens are just plunked into a garden bed seemingly separate from their surrounding neighbors. Looking forward to seeing more photos.... Posted: 9:54 am on November 18th
