maple shape leaves

I inherited a garden when I moved this summer.

I had cut down two dead plants that had turned brown & faded.

Soon after new growth came up, even though it is September & now the plants have begun to flower.

Flowers are blue with violet at base & plants have maple shaped leaves.

What is the name of this plant?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Laurel

Gruenings writes: It is definitely a delphinium! I have some in my garden and it stands up to 6 to 8' tall. There is a Chinese variety that is smaller. A wonderful plant to have in your garden. Posted: 9:25 pm on September 21st

I grow it, but have it in a spot where it I can watch its care, i.e., away from grandchildren and pets. Posted: 7:23 pm on September 20th
