Mystery Compost Plant?

This plant grew up quite quickly in my herb garden in East Central Florida from June to mid August. I have used a composter to improve soil.

Out of curiosity I let it grow quite large. It features:

  • pale pink rather beautiful digitalis like flowers,
  • fleshy stems,
  • is sticky to the touch leaving a slightly rank smell on your fingers,
  • a few dangling seed pods, which look like tiny green chillies

Before I pull it up I wanted to try to identify it!

Many thanks experts!

Jessie_Keith writes: It looks like Proboscidea louisianica (syn. Martynia louisiana). The common name is ram's horn. It's a North American annual field weed but quite pretty. Here's the USDA page on it: http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=PRLO. Posted: 10:30 am on September 13th
