READER PHOTO! Snow? In the middle of summer?
comments (1) June 21st, 2010 in blogs
Todays' photo is from Erle Nickel in Oakland, California. He says, "No, that's not a snow drift blanketing this plant. It's the intriguing Verbascum bombyciferum 'Arctic Summer.' Native to Greece, it features a large rosette of silvery gray foliage and in summer five foot tall flower spikes that look all the world like spun cotton. Bright yellow flowers seem to be escaping from their snowy cocoon. A showstopper for a sunny bed." This plant is hardy in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-9. Thanks, Erle, for sending in this great shot!
