Patio and Pergola - our place to relax in the shade

Patio and Pergola - our place to relax in the shade

Our wooden pergola is covered with Trumpet Vine 'Flava' and Wisteria 'Amethyst Falls.' This provides a nicely shaded area for dining and relaxing. This area is also accessible by french doors from the formal dining room.  There are shade plants in a small bed next to the house, beside the deck.

The wooden deck not only provides stairs from the dining room French doors, but a seat with a hinged top provides storage, as does the taller plant stand, which has a vertical door on the side for storing tall garden tools.

Sections of brick have been removed for spotting plants in an area that receives no foot traffic due to the dogwood tree which grows there.  The "chandelier" is present year-round, since it contains hardy sedums.

Tiny white lights are strung on the "rafter" of the pergola, which turn on via a timer at dusk. Our family room, kitchen, and dining room look out over this space, which brings a beautiful garden view inside.
