Several of these have voluntarily popped up in a couple of shady spots in my garden. Western CT, acid soil. 4mm thick stem with few dark green, veined leaves, lily-ish? Ht = approx 6-8" currently. Growing in singles. Many thanks for any assistance.

Cubkin writes: I have been trying to get a definitive identification for these for over a year. Even a naturalist with the State of Michigan was unable to accurately label them. They are extremely invasive, impossible to kill and very difficult to pull out. We've only been seeing them for the last 2-3 years - never before - and now they're everywhere! Look at the leaves close to the ground. The twistedstalk looks a lot like our Solomon Seal and doesn't appear to have broad, rounded basal leaves. (I have the same plant growing here, in CT, and the deer just ate the three strongest spikes. I'd like to dig up a few of the remaining ones, but they're on private property.)

Linneaz writes: I have these in the forested area of my garden in the Pacific Northwest. I have previously identified these in my garden, but my filing system has failed me! I think it is a member of the lily family. In the west it would be Streptopus roseus, AKA Rosy Twistedstalk. Streptopus amplexifolius looks a lot like it too, and both seem to be considered noxious weeds, but on the other hand to have edible berries. Take your choice. Posted: 5:17 pm on June 12th
