What has been digging in my field?
comments (0) April 5th, 2010 in blogsWhat was once a simple woodchuck hole in my berry patch has gone upscale. Last year, the transformation began, and every few days the sand fortress grew longer and higher.
I have no idea what lives here, but something does. Just ask my dog, who would like nothing better than to stick his head inside. I imagine a luxury subterranean dwelling, tastefully appointed, with grand and small entryways, numerous and far-flung.
This winter, when I was cutting back the canes, I thought I caught a whiff of skunk. Or could it be raccoons? I'm pretty sure it's not foxes. They have a well-established den near the well house, also in an old woodchuck hole. It's draped in bittersweet and wild rose, and I think they like it there.
Can anyone help identify the mystery tenant?
