This sultry, monochromatic bed makes a big impact with its large sweeps of deep red plants. Amaranth and coleus supply the bulk of the drama, and are knitted together with a band of ornamental kale. A skirt of delicate gaura keeps this powerful combo from going just a bit too far.

Welcome to the Fine Gardening Garden Photo of the Day blog! Every weekday we post a new photo of a great garden, a spectacular plant, a stunning plant combination, or any number of other subjects. Think of it as your morning jolt of green.

Sign up to get new posts delivered to your inbox each morning, so you'll always remember to take a look. We look forward to sharing our garden travels with you.

If you think you have a photo that we should share on the Garden Photo of the Day, email us. Send hi-res images to mgervais@taunton.com with GPOD in the subject line. We'll only respond if we plan to use your photo.

arboretum writes: tremendous piece of design, but the 'print' is too dark. Can you lighten it and repost? Ever since My Love helped us see the monotony of borders of pastels(it was peonies at the time; many many pastels)20 years ago, we have included dark reds in all our plantings. They also complement all our variegated foliage here as well.

mgervais writes: Canase, this photo was taken at Longfellow Gardens in Minneapolis. It's a gem of a garden in the middle of town that I stumbled upon by accident a few years ago. The gardeners there do amazing things with annuals! Posted: 10:21 am on March 25th
canase writes: Great color and texture combination. It would be helpful to know where the gardens featured in your daily photos are located. Incorporating some of the ideas would be great if they fall into a similar climate to ours. Posted: 10:17 am on March 25th
