I Have Another Oddity That I Need Help Identifying

You were such a big help on my other plant identification, I thought I'd give this plant a shot. I was always told it was called a "Popcorn Shrimp Plant" because of its small size, and petite flowers. The leaves look exactly like all my other shrimp plants, but much smaller. The overall height of each plant is approximately 18", and I don't see them getting any taller than that. To me, the flowers look more like a small bird. Can anyone help me identify this plant?

I live in Southeast Texas - Zone 9

Thanks so much (in advance).

Thanks for confirming the ID. It really is a great looking plant. Sorry my reply showed up twice--I did have some access issues yesterday.

Anyway, great plant and pic. I follow finegardening (one of my favorite magazines) on twitter and saw the link to this forum so I logged in. It's great.

Take care and happy gardening,
Grant

DuHamel writes: Thank you very much, Grant. Your help has been invaluable. I did check out several photos of salvia, and this is indeed a salvia. It looks identical to the Salvia coccinea (Hummingbird Sage) that I found.

Thank you for the photography comments. It's the camera - I just point and shoot. I have a lot of pretty neat photos of plants that I have. When I got my new camera (about a year ago), I started taking pictures of everything in sight to try and figure out how to use the darn thing.

If there's anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask. You have helped me out a bunch.

Thanks, and have a GREAT DAY!

grantinarizona writes: Beautiful! It's definitely a salvia for sure. It certainly looks like a pink form of Salvia coccinea to me. If you do a search for images online or in your books you can take a look and let us know what you think. I'd bet good money of S. coccinea though. Getting a closer view of the leaves would help seal the ID, but I'm pretty confident.

Let us know what you think. You're great at photography, by the way.
