Our native Southern magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) is an aristocrat in all seasons.


The Southern magnolia's glossy green leaves don't change color in the fall, but it does display a range of autumn color, starting with a sublimely rosy fruit that soon bears brilliant, scarlet seeds. This is is a close-up photo of the magnolia's fruit as it slowly ripens.
