A garden is not just a combination of plants; it is the combination of plants and their environment.  We were looking for a way to have a garden of multiple colors to enhance our new terraced front yard.  We choose a variety of different perennials which included a selection of salvias: “East Friesland “and “May Night” which gave us the deep blue and purple, “Purple Knockout” for a touch of burgundy, and “Red Vermillion Bluffs” for that punch of red.  Diascia, ”Coral Canyon Twinspur” provided a touch of salmon for one of the smaller pockets combined with “Brocade” silver/gray Artemisia and the deep salmon pink of dianthus.  Yellow carpet roses and golden yellow coreopsis gave us a bright pop of color.  Annuals of yellow dwarf marigolds, salmon zinnias and tiny orange/red zinnias were added to complete this spectacular splash of color.

Since this garden is in the front for all to see, we not only wanted the combination of colorful plants to enhance our property, but also to enable us to share with our neighbors, who stop by with questions, that these plants were available  at our local box stores and nearby nurseries.   This way our garden has been an influence for our neighbors from far and near to start enhancing their yards.  It has been a joy to walk thru our neighborhood and see many new gardens which have popped up since we completed ours.
