growing in the shade in zone 7. Bloomed just once in 5 years. Green basal rosette hasnt bloomed for 3 years.

Shiny dark green leaves with nearly parallel deep veining looks somewhat like Digitalis ferruginea but slightly narrower and shinier than the photos I have seen. The flowers were all white, as I recall, and smaller than D. ferruginea's which have more color, too, than this one. Birds must have planted it. No one around here has it in their yard. Bloomed in its second year and hasn't bloomed since.

ChestnutCabinCook writes: This looks like a white Liatris, an American native also ommonly called White Spike Gayfeather and Blazing Stars. They can grow quite tall. Move it to a sunny spot for bloom. Posted: 8:11 am on September 22nd
DaylilyDreamer writes: You may have either a Liatris (gayfeather)or possibly a Veronica spicta (Speedwell). Both need full sun to bloom well. Posted: 9:42 pm on September 21st
