This plant appeared in my shade garden this spring and has bloomed nearly all of July.  I live in Long Island in zone 6-7.  It is app. 10 inches high and  reproduces with runners.  I did not buy it but think it might have come in with another plant given to me be a friend.   I have asked everybody who is into Horticultural and so far it remains a mystery plant.  I love it and would love to know its name.

Karen writes: That's Houttuynia cordata. It probably started out in your friend's garden as the variegated form 'Chameleon'. It's very pretty but both aggressive and tenacious, and it tends to revert to the all green. If you want to grow it you should plant it in a location that can handle its stoloniferous nature without making you crazy. Posted: 5:52 pm on August 4th
sxwarren writes: Looks like houttuynia cordata, a non variegated form. Seems to me it needs fairly moist soil and a good deal of sun to be really invasive. Posted: 5:16 pm on August 3rd
gardendweller writes: I purchased and planted the same plant years ago. It is very invasive and impossible to get rid of. I can't remember the name but I am sure I have a record some where. Will let you know when I locate the name. Posted: 10:50 pm on August 1st
