'Totemholes'
comments (3) July 20th, 2009 in gallery
Rocks with holes drilled through centers and then 'skewered' on a 3-4ft threaded rod available at any hardware store (3$). Small bolts (5-10 cents each) on threaded rod seperates rocks from each other and allows adjustment of the spaces height inbetween each rock or object. Rocks can also spin to create a new form. Rod is stuck in garden soil or embeded in movable cement base. Base is made by spraying any plastic container with Pam cooking spray, filing with concrete, centering rod. Later thread anything on the rod as long as it has holes for skewering. Bolts and washers let you decide spaces between items if needed. One bag of 10-12$ concrete (if you want to make soiid heavy movable bases) makes about 5 bases. Create totems to tell a garden story, make stone pagodas, etc. Quick and inexpensive to do. Durable. Adds verticality to gardens. Look wonderful beyond summer covered in winter snows.
