I like to grow perennials from seed, but I’ve discovered that these small plants are a favorite lunch for hungry rabbits. My effective, no-cost solution is to use plastic-mesh produce bags (the kind that onions come in) to cover and protect the young plants.

I push three or four small wooden stakes or twigs into the soil around the plants. Then I slip the produce bag over the stakes to hold the bag upright. The rabbits do not chew through the plastic, and the plants are protected while getting light and air.
