Hi Susan, I especially like your gravel paths setting off your perfect perennials. In my part sun garden everything flops. So I love seeing the perennials so upright. Another thing I like about your garden is that you don't practice cramspacing (I think that's the term). It's nice to see each perennial in its full glory. It's restful too. Where less is more.
@ Susan, I am thinking of putting in a gravel path in my newly started Japanese garden. Will you tell me what size gravel stone you used in your paths
Your asters are beautiful and as a fan of ornamental grasses I love seeing them in landscapes. Yours are especially lovely. I'm liking your metal garden ornaments also :). Thanks for sharing your talent. Vikki in VA.
Looks like you have a lovely setting in which to live and garden, Susan. All the tall trees off in the distance at the edge of your lawn make a nice backdrop for the exciting happenings in your sunny garden areas. Is the ornamental grass so prominently featured in the last two pictures 'Karl Foerster' feather reed grass? I bought a grass a few years ago that was marked 'Hamlin' and it decidedly is something else. Seeing your pictures is making me think it is whatever you are using in repetition so effectively. Love your deep purply blue asters...such a dainty flower in such a vibrant color.

I'm thinking I need to reassess my dislike of marigolds. What lovely bursts of colour and such a backdrop for the purple asters. I am a fan of these controlled grasses as well. thanks for sharing your garden. Mabel Lake - central British Columbia?
Well, Quilting Mamma just stole my comment. I was thinking the same thing about the marigolds. I guess I never thought I liked them, but the repeated use in your garden, their compact size and their fabulous compatibility with the asters are great. Susan, I love your garden and aesthetic more every time you share your garden, and I so desperately want your stone water feature! So tasteful.
Tim if you managed to acquire all the posts, rocks and assorted garden ornaments, there would be no room for plants - then what would you do!

I never really thought about fall being a quieter time in the garden, but looking at your photos after reading your words I completely agree, Susan. Your gardens are beautiful!
I agree with you Susan that Fall is a quieter time of year. Although around here on Vancouver Island the birds are very busy. Love your combinations of asters, marigolds and asters.
Now this is quite a different garden and it really does seem restful. I think I would like a quiet stroll along your gravel paths where I could peacefully get to know your cleverly highlighted plants, Susan.
