Today’s photos are from daily GPODer Cherry Ong in British Columbia! She says, “I met up with a girlfriend who I hadn’t seen for 25 years this summer and took her to Granville Island Public Market outside Bridges Restaurant. I happened upon these spectacular containers while there and thought everyone would enjoy them.
I love the scale and the bright red color of the containers. The rocks atop a couple of the containers are pure design genius. I can’t even begin to imagine how they would repot that skinny tall tree. I’m sorry I couldn’t get the tall tree in one shot on my cell phone. I hope everyone is enjoying the last couple of weeks of summer. I know I am and hope to every day. Regards to all!”
Those are GORGEOUS, Cherry! I wonder who designed them?? If anyone knows, let me know…..

Cherry, I nominate and vote you GPOD-er of the year. Those enlargements were just what the doctor ordered! There are such wonderful textures and details in these containers and my eyes were just begging to see things more clearly. I agree that the use of the rocks as one of the design elements was "pure genius" (to quote an expert). Thanks so much for sharing these. Was your girlfriend a gardening aficionado also and totally understanding of why you were snapping pics of plant filled containers?
Sadly, nope but she went along with it since I snapped more photos of her and I also took her out to dinner - LOL.

I'm with you, Michaele... Cherry is hands down the Queen of GPOD! And, the use of rocks is a fun element that will definitely find it's way into some of my 2015 containers!
Cherry, not only do you have the"eye" for creating your own containers but your eye for catching spectacular creations everywhere you go is unfailing. thanks for the enlargements so we could all see and enjoy the photos more clearly
So I could spend so much time commenting on everything that is right, creative, healthy and beautiful about these containers. I don't think I could pick a favorite. Well, ok, my favorite is the tree, weeping conifer and mondo grass. They are like little landscapes. Kudos to the mystery designer and to Cherry for snapping photos and sharing.
You and Sheila Schultz have some competition for the title of "Container Queen"!

Just thought you would want to know the mystery designer of the red pots. I emailed the restaurant (I saw the name in one of the photos)they replied and the designer is Adian at Garden Sanctuary.

Ahhh Cherry, you do GPOD proud! What phenomenal designs. I second Meander's nomination. The details are crisp and clear and make viewing a pleasure. One quick question: do you know what the spiller is in the first photo? I've seen the plant but can't place the name? (Typical of me). Thanks for seeing, clicking, sharing, enlarging!
It might be a cotoneaster.... just guessing.
That was what my impression of it was. I will return to have a closer look. If it bears the usual red fruit, then we will know for sure.
Thank you so much for the enlarged photos perennially Crazy. You made my morning. Having photos that are clear so we can see the details makes it enjoyable to view them. So very thoughtful of you. I slipped rocks in my pots this year too,it started with a stack of rocks left over from our stacked rockery wall ,they add texture and the hard scape effect the same as they do in the gardens. I hope to comment more now that the season is winding down a little. Still have to finish enlarging a bed and some ravine work though. Love the pots my fav is the weeping conifer also Tim Vojt.

I have used small rocks and stones in my containers, sometimes temporarily while the plants are small, to keep the birds from scratching plants and bulbs out. They scratch for bugs and throw out the dirt. Here are a couple of samples (in small format).
Oops, can't seem to do more than one photo at a time, and they are small enough. Cherry how do you do that? And now can't delete the other posts I tried with, as it is calling me "guest".
Trying for a second example - Corylopsis spicata with primulas and grasses.
I think this pot has my 'new' fave grass for containers! Is the name something like Belinda Finn? I never saw or used it before this season.
I like the look of it too. Sometimes the brown grasses look dead. This is a nice one - label said Uncinia uncinata Red Hook Sedge.
Those look great. I especially love the corylopsis and primulas. I often dress the tops of containers with gravel to discourage the squirrels from digging everything out, but this is much more decorative!
I have Corylopsis envy too.
Love the stones Granny May. They are perfect, especially when the plantings have just been installed and you know they are going to grow!

Thanks Cherry. I did that, and then it said I couldn't load over 2MB, even though I was careful to select only small photos. I'll try again some other time. It obviously works for you.
I have a program (Image Resizer for Windows) that reduces the original photo down to a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This size seems to show enough detail onscreen without overloading the comments page. Not sure what you use for Macs. Hope this helps.
I'm with Tim, but please feel free to send your garden photos as well. There's never enough photos of GPODers gardens.
I second Tim... I'd love to see how you incorporate stone in your containers!
Spectacular! Love the tree, the rocks, the red pots - thanks so much for sharing the beauty.
I can't get enough of these containers, Cherry, they completely blow me away. I adore the conifer piece. The design is simple and unbelievably dramatic, especially with the yellow background wall! But the containers that I can't take my eyes off of are the 2 rectangular pieces. The textures of the silver plectranthus (?) and the silver tansy (?) play beautifully together. And color echoes ... the yellows and purples, with the tri-color geranium leaves pulling everything together. These containers are design genius. Think I'm excited???

Well I finally have some minuets to comment.. Totally awesome! So glad you showed us these, Cherry! I so love the color combo with the yellow siding. How fun to do. Cha ching on all the pots. But they are gorgeous! Makes me want to start planning for next year. That is one thing about us gardeners... We are alive with hope! Hope of the garden growing and us doing things in it and for it, season after season! Oh happy days!
I am a huge fan of anything euphorbia! You have showcased it esp.nicely with the chartruesy sedum highlighting the bracket color in the euphorbia.
