Bedding zinnia (Zinnia elegans 'Dreamland Series')
ZIN-ee-ah EL-eh-ganz
Genus:  Zinnia
This annual series is comprised of dwarf, compact plants, 10 to 12 inches tall and half as wide. They bloom all summer with fully double blossoms, to 4 inches wide, in apricot, ivory, red, yellow, pink, and many shades in between.
Noteworthy Characteristics:  Zinnias are old-fashioned annuals and perennials, mainly from Mexico and warm regions of the Americas. They are indispensible as cut flowers, as they have exceptional vase life, and in annual displays, herb and cottage gardens, and mixed borders. They are perfect for use as edging and in naturalized areas.
Care:  Provide fertile, well-drained soil in full sun with good air circulation. Deadhead spent blossoms to continue flowering.
Propagation:  Sow seed (preferably in succession for a longer flowering period) where it is to grow in late spring, or at 55-65°F in early spring.
Problems:  Bacterial and fungal spots, bacterial wilt, powdery mildew, Southern blight, stem rots, caterpillars, mealybugs, spider mites.
