Garden Photo of the Day

From a Beautiful Tree to Holiday Traditions in CT

By Kim Charles

Lesa Moemeka from Rocky Hill, CT shows us a glimpse of what Christmas means to her.

"This is my absolute favourite time of year and decorating the tree with my 8 year old son is a must. All our ornaments have been collected over the years and we have a 'more is more' approach with a twist. There is usually a dominant colour, which for this year is red and is pronounced here in the berry spikes. Excess ornaments are placed in oversized clear vases to enhance the decor.

I have also copied a paragraph below that accompanied this photo on my Instagram account @topiarylavender

Finalement! I have been struggling with my normally ever present Christmas spirit this year. I had to dig deep to pull it out for my darling family. Meaning, hours of Christmas carols on iTunes Radio, a roaring fireplace, and mugs of hot chocolatey marshmallow goodness. I threw in a little prayer for good measure as well. My baby boy hugged me tight and said "Mommy, I love and appreciate all you do for me."  How could I not have Christmas cheer after that? I just LOVE being his mommy. WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

Your room with the tree has such a warm and welcoming glow and your tree will definitely get a thumbs up from Santa...especially since it's conveniently located near his entry point, the fireplace. But, then again, you already got the best present of all...the loving and appreciative hug from your little boy.

Hello Lesa, Thank you for showing us your lovely tree and Cosy room with stockings hung by the fire. Our Family Tree is the most favorite part for us, too. We look forward to digging out the ornaments dating back over fifty years or more, telling the tale of each to our granddaughters as they pick through and choose their favorites to hang on the tree. My husband puts on Christmas music for us to work by, the fires are lit - it is all magical.
    Marry Christmas to you all.

Thank you, Eddi. It is my hope that I
will be able to tell this story as I decorate the tree with my own grandchildren a couple decades from now. Thank you for sharing your story. ??? MERRY Christmas!
